2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol, which in the past has been erroneously called 鈥渉exylene glycol鈥, is an ingredient in products ranging from cosmetics to brake fluid. A. Franke first reported its synthesis in 1901. P. Y. Chavant and co-workers recently came up with聽a new use for it鈥攕ynthesizing arylboronic esters without having to run the reaction at cryogenic temperatures.
